John Holladay Category 5 Surfboards
-
I have grown up in Jacksonville FL playing watersports of all kinds, enjoy sailing, fishing of course surfing. I have been repairing boards from childhood and began shaping in 2005. UNF business graduate, I started Holladay Surfboards in 2007, after making quite a few boards for friends, myself and anyone that had interest.
-
I began making boards at a time when the surf industry was in major change, new materials, construction methods and board design have been my focus and passion for years. The closure of Clark Foam allowed new blank materials to become mainstream on much of the west and east coast, I started Holladay Surfboards to continue the distribution of EPS surfboard cores on the First Coast and help introduce an alternative surfboard over the overwhelming influx of Chinese made surf products and old style polyester boards.
-
I exclusively make EPS blanks in the North Florida area and have made a wide array of production and industry standard rockers for shapers in and outside of the USA. Board building is my passion – long, short and in between. I live to shape and make boards. I shape Polyurethane and EPS boards, but only glass with Epoxy Resin. I take pride in making some of the lightest, cleanest and strongest boards with Epoxy Resin for our Florida surf, proven boards for large big wave areas and pro wakesurfboarders. I am extremely knowledgeable in working with Epoxy, ding repair of all kinds, Vac construction, and helping shapers and surfers with board and rocker designs.
-
I was instrumental in the organization and formation of Category 5 Surf LLC, now Category 5 Industries, in 2010. I have had the honor and privilege working with many of Jacksonville and North Florida’s surfboard craftsmen as student or supplier, making boards for local shops, surfers, large volume ding repair work and local help via shaping classes, free demos and lessons.
